A symphony of relentless, piercing noise, Liturgy’s second LP, Aesthethica confirms any recently held suspicion that Hunter Hunt-Hendrix and his trio of “hipster” Brooklyn black metalers really do appeal just to those willing to accept the tones of their particular release. Though some have called LP 2 as having “cross-over potential,” I’m still not hearing it. Playing a late-afternoon early show at the Echo, the band surprised in delivering a live sound that, though bounds below the sort of seeded density lurking from their recorded output, was still very much as interesting and exciting to watch as I could have hoped.

California’s dark ethereal newcomers Ides of Gemini and Pendu Sound-scape gloomer Chelsea Wolfe provided support.
