The VISUALIZED conference is a gathering of creatives, designers and social innovators who are “changing how we understand and interact with data; and gain insight into designing data-driven narratives that connect with audiences and visualize the human experience.” It takes place in New York City November 8th and 9th.

To celebrate, VISUALIZED interviewed graphic designer Peter Saville about his now legendary cover for Joy Division‘s 1977 debut, Unknown Pleasures. The video includes the image’s origin, implementation and lasting impact of which has seen it everywhere from running shoes, Disney merchendise, birthday cakes, tattoos and condoms. Great little video.

This is the first video in a series about the new language of data and its impact on culture. The videos have been created for the VISUALIZED conference, Nov 8 & 9, 2012, in New York City.
