The solo project of Seattle musician and Grave Babies player, (certainly a Holloweyed favorite; I still love this photo set of them in LA last year) Mitchell Saulsberry, is, along with a cast of rotating players, Perpetual Ritual. Damp and claustrophobic, the music rubs garage dust all over a lens of bummer rock swirls and neofolk chants. His latest release for Living Tapes is the very limited cassette, Perpetual Flood. Grab the tune “Night Worship,” from the 100-copy tape below.

Knoxville, TN retro-pop quartet Yung Life just dropped the jovial new tune, “Isn’t This” on their Soundcloud page. Today, the song was given Song of the Day status by the SC folks. Stream/download the tune below. Their S/T debut drops June 21st- I’m looking forward to it.

Another pop jammer for you. Recent signings to the Jagjaguwar imprint, the label calls Foxygen, the bi-coastal project of young musicians Sam France and Jonathan Rado, a “de-Wes Andersonization of The Rolling Stones, Kinks, Velvets” and in so many words, I’d agree after throwing in some sultry lounge croon and a dash of Pulp to round it out. Hear/download the tune “Make it Known” below. The act’s seven-song debut, Take the Kids Off Broadway drops on July 24th on vinyl and digital formats.

My love for the monotone and slinky post punk project, The Soft Moon is nothing new, so when I saw that impacting electronic producer / original Ultravox singer John Foxx (“Underpass” guys!) was somehow involved with Luis Vasquez for a collaboration song, I jumped. “Evidence” will be released as a one-sided 7″ on June 26th from Captured Tracks.

Toronto’s Beta Frontiers make dime-store electro blips in one of the better ways possible. Hear the grooving, hip-hop inspired first track from their five-song, S/T EP below. It released back on April 17th for the Daps Records folks.
